Richard is in the orchard
He likes the pikes
Of pineapples and the whiff of apples
He thinks of the thicket
Around the pea pod
And shrinks to the brink
O poor Richard in the orchard!
Think not about the thicket
Go for the flower before you

It is the twenty-first day of the twenty-first year in the twenty-first century-whatever is peculiar about that though. Some changes seem to be in the offing. For sure, the terror-filled and plague-ravaged year is behind us. Now, there are a bunch of “medical-miracle” vaccines to face Covid-19. To top it, the tension and political instability that was once prevalent in some parts of the world is already doused. What more? To hope things get better more and more or not?
I am in no way a clairvoyant to know all the answers. Nonetheless, I do hope the emerging trends of hope will follow an upward trajectory.
As it is the usual ritual, the are resolutions many of us made at the beginning of the year-habits we want to change, projects we want to accomplish, and bridges we want to cross-which are already almost non-existent by now. The passion has passed, the urgency is gone. Everything looks like all talks and no action, a dilemma one is aware of, but seems helpless to change.
However, there are reasons why you should not despair about failing so early and easily to follow your dreams through: It is too early to be in the panic mode, and there is still enough room for improvement.
Without recommending complacency, or encouraging lethargy, I have a simple solution to help achieve your dreams in 2021. It’s basic, but it works : By changing your thought pattern and harnessing your mind to think positively, you can direct the course of your life. In fact, you can ignite enough spark needed to have your resolutions come through. “If you are going to change the world,” as Frances Arnorld say, “you’ve got be fearless.” Rightfully so, fearlessness, like every other virtue, is first cultivated in the mind.
Many assume things just happen in this world randomly, but they are wrong. What goes on in our minds determine, to a large extent, what goes on around us. If you want to experience success, think success. What this does is that, as you think success you begin to take actions that culminate in succes, and ultimately you experience success.
As inconsequential an aphorism as it may seem, if your mind is right and healthy, you are bound to record so much success this year. Go all the way to feed your mind with the right resources-listen to music that lift your soul, read books that ignite your heart, and fellowship with positive-minded people. Do not dwell on the negative, but on the positive, because it is 2021- a year pregnant with opportunities.
Carl Sandburg says, “Nothing happens unless first we dream,” and that is absolutely perfect. More often than not, we have to dream more than once. Some times, you may have to fight a battle more than once before you win. Set-backs, like some would like to say, are commas, not periods. Set-backs are like dead-rubber games-they do not decide whether you win in life or not. Your win is your decision.

You can, and should dream again, whatever blow life had dealt with you. You can still have the job you have always desired. Yes, you can still make that trip. It is absolutely still possible to get that degree. Whatever you have always dreamt of, you can still achieve. If your mind can conceive it, your hand can achieve it. In fact, many of the celebrated successful people today failed at first. We have their stories with us today because they dared to dream again.

You know what? It was God who placed in every individual the ability to dream. So, your dream is worth pursuing. Keep the passion to pursue your dream aglow. Your dream is legitimate, don’t let the unfavourable circumstances around you tell you otherwise.
A quick question can help put you back in the dream mode: Why have you always wanted to achieve that which you are now trying to discard off? You want to make your family and yourself proud, you want to help others, you want to help the helpless, or you want to be financially independent? If you dwell more on the “why”, it is easier to get back on your feet.
Friend, the world is waiting expectantly for your dream to show forth.“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” .
